Year 7 – their first week at the College

It has been a pleasure to see how well the new year 7s have settled into the College, they have already grown in confidence, look great in their uniform and enjoying the opportunities we have on offer. In Computing they have been introduced to makewaves which us used by our media team to publish their reports on-line; they have been using it to write about their first impressions as a new student.

I have copied a few of their comments here which really do show how well they have done in their first few weeks:

Starting at secondary school is known to be a daunting experience but the whole time has gone stunningly smoothly. All the staff and pupils made the time a enjoyable refreshing experience with everything thoroughly explained. My highlight of the week has been PE for certain as I am obsessed with sport.

On Thursday 30th of August, I started Catmose College. The first lesson I had was science with Mr. Kerley. It was really cool because we learned about everything we will do in the lab. Next we had Maths which was really fun as well but halfway through the lesson we had to get our photos taken. After that, the first lesson before lunch, we had double English with Mrs Davis where we started to study the book Skellig (By David Almond). After that we had lunch! I had a chicken Ceaser Salad sandwich which was really nice!!! Then for the final lesson for the day we had P.E. Even though a bit tiring, I still really enjoyed it. I got to know my form really well and I remembered most of their names and I have a really nice form teacher called Mr.Brydon and I think my five years at Catmose will be amazing!

Last Thursday was my first day of secondary school! It was really fun. It was a lot different to primary school (in a good way)! In the morning I had to get the bus to Catmose. This was really scary because I had only ever got the bus once on my own before. However, it was fine because I had all my good friends around me! It was really different when I got off the bus and walked into the school, I went from being in a school with 190 people in it, to going in a year group with 190 people in it!

On my first day I had science, maths, double English and P.E. My science teacher is Mr.Kerley he is really nice and he makes the lessons really enjoyable for us all. After science it was maths, I wasn’t to keen on maths because I found it a little bit hard at primary school however, it was such a great lesson. Our teacher for maths was Mrs Beacham. I was extremely excited for the next lesson because it was English and English is one of my favourite lessons. As I thought, English was an amazingly interesting lesson a lot different to the lessons we had in primary school. I was looking forward to tutorial because that meant that we got to get to know our form teacher (Mr Brydon) a little bit better and we did. After tutorial it was lunch which was really exciting because we got to meet loads of new people who were all really nice. In the afternoon it was P.E I love sport so this was one of the lessons I had been waiting for! P.E was great because we didn’t just get to work with people in our form we also got to work with the people from the other forms. My first day at Catmose was great!

I went in to the Collage with not a clue of where I was going but now after 5 Days I am more confident. I do ask if I’m lost but then get to class on time. I feel more grown up and independent I have made more friends and I love how much there is to do. It is a really big school but so cool . I love how we have a card to get in the College and to get lunch.

I have really enjoyed being at Catmose College, I get to learn lots of interesting things and I’ve met a lot of interesting people. The best part was going to different rooms and making everything fun. Catmose is the best College ever and I wouldn’t want it to change.

My first week at Catmose college was brilliant!

I really enjoyed every lesson and I was actually looking forward to getting up in the morning and going to school! I have to admit I was a little scared about getting lost on the first couple of days but I am getting more and more confident about asking questions and talking to teachers about things like homework.

—————————-

Who knew school could be fun! At Catmose it is! We did all sorts activities. I made lots of friends with students and teachers! The lessons were not boring! On the first day we had English with Miss Gonda (The best English teacher ever!), we also had science and I loved the lesson after lunch, sport! I was actually upset when the weekend came, and I couldn’t wait to go back!

I hope everyone else’s was great too.

“My first 2 days at Catmose were really good. I walked with my friends and then went straight to my form class. After the register I did History, Maths and English. Then I met my friends at the Hellerup for lunch, in the afternoon I had Maths and French.

On day 2 I wasn’t nervous at all because I had a great first day. Lessons on Friday were Art and Design, ICT, French and then sports all afternoon.

I enjoyed all my lessons but my favourite was English by far!”

My first week at Catmose has been great and enjoyable. The lessons have been good and I have liked science and history. I have met up with my friends at lunch and break. When the teachers have been talking I have listened very carefully and understood what they are saying. I have liked science because it is very nice being with my friends and being able to talk about the stuff we are doing. History has been good because are teacher is very funny and that makes it very interesting. I have enjoyed all my lessons and I like this College very much.

“I have loved every second of my first two days of Catmose College. As soon as I walked in on my first day I knew it was the right school for me. At first, all of our form had a talk with our form tutor (Mrs Woods) about what was happening that day. She went through what we were doing and said double sport at the end of the day, I thought then fantastic, I love that. Before I could think about it, it was lunchtime and I was hungry. I walked out of school with a massive grin on my face showing I loved it.

The second day was great too. Science with Mrs Moore was cool, we got to design our front covers for our books. I also loved HMS with Mr Marsh, we were talking about history and what it is. I also love his tie selection.

I have loved my first two days at Catmose and I am sure I going to enjoy the rest of my time here. I hope the next year sevens will enjoy it too”.

“I LOVED the first day at Catmose. Initially, I did Drama, it was extremely different to Primary school drama. We tried to learn everybody’s names however, I didn’t do very well. Next I learnt about Roman numerals (which was in Maths). Some of the letters were; I=1, V=5, X=10, L=50, C=100 and M is for 1000. I researched at home if there was a letter for 500 and I found out there was (which was D). After that there was Science. Our teacher was talking about our project that we were going to get as homework. Unfortunately, we had to get photographs taken for our name cards which interrupted our first science lesson. I hope we wont get disturbed in our next science lesson!

Then we learned about English. We were in the Shakespeare room, that is one of my favourite people EVER. We thought about what we would spend on £1 000 000. Personally, I would choose to buy a Bentley, the car, also I would invest into a company. After English it was lunch, it is twenty minutes less than Primary school lunch but that is a perfect time for lunch. After I devoured my lunch it was P.E. we did fitness tests which were really fun. After P.E. it was home time. It was the end of a brilliant first day at Catmose College.”

“This is my 4th day at Catmose and I’m loving it. I’m lucky because I have a few of my really good friends in my form and I’ve made lots of new friends which is good. The lunch here is so cool because there’s so much choice. The lessons are fun here especially English with Miss Gonda! So overall Catmose is a pretty amazing College!”

“I think it went well on my first day because I didn’t get lost but I enjoyed it a lot. I was shocked because we got given a lot of homework but I didn’t mind it because it was quiet easy but I think it will get harder. Hopefully I won’t get lost and be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The other year groups were very helpful as well because they where willing to help if you got lost. Overall I think it all went well and I am looking forward to the next 5 years of Catmose;)”

“Catmose College is an amazing school, my first day was the best. Its a very big College and quiet hard to find your way round. I’m so lucky to be there. I will love the next 5 years there. I got lost a bit on my first day, but with the help of the wonderful teachers I soon found my way.”

In the morning I got on the bus and went on my way to school amongst hundreds of other children. When I arrived at school I saw all of the older students glancing at the group of little children (including me). Some of them were so tall, to them I was as small as an ant. I arrived at the form room, Dior, and sat down, I spied around the room and noticed form tutor, Miss Reeve. My favourite lesson was maths with Mr. Ward, I had a bit of trouble finding the right room as my form accidentally ended up in Fibonacci when we needed to be in Napier but we eventually found our way! In this lesson I was learning about Roman numerals and that there are many different number systems. The method we were all being taught used letters to stand for numbers, e.g. I=1 V=5 X=10 L=50 C=100 D=500 M=1000. When the lesson was over, it was break time. We had two more lessons then it was lunch I had a tuna and cucumber sandwich. By the end of the day I realised I was really going to enjoy my time of being here at Catmose College, especially the smell of Beeton (the cookery room), being allowed to wear my hair down and the colour of the library floor. It was going to be the start of a new beginning.
